The power of art and imagery can transform the world.
Sarah Cohen is an artist who uses glass and natural materials as her tools to express consumerism in 21st century America. Transplanted to Pittsburgh in 2015 after working for other artists, Sarah started her own studio practice full-time. Working with glass mosaics inspired by nature, Sarah also continues to focus on nature through her jewelry business, PetalVision Glass, started in 2016. Looking at materials with a critical eye, consumerism is the catalyst that drives most of her work.
From mosaics to sculpted glass cell phones to snow books and poinsettia necklaces, each object serves as a social text about climate and technology worship in 21st century America.
Sarah, originally from New Jersey, helplessly indulges in popular culture, trends, and social platforms while at the same time being critical of its impacts. Finding sculpture during her undergraduate degree (The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in conjunction with Tufts University, 2012) prompted Sarah to work for many artists, learning the skills necessary to run her own studio, all while maintaining her roles as Collections Assistant in the Invertebrate Zoology and Mammology Departments at the Harvard Museum of Natural History. Painting since 5 years old, the observation of her surroundings has always been a main source of inspiration.
